I adore those traditional, time-honored recipes, and I may be a little bit of a purist. Those ancient recipes that my mom used to make are my favorites. As a kid, I used to love nothing more than racing into the kitchen the second I got off school to see what my mom had planned for supper. In the winter, I would be shivering from the cold and starving by the time I reached home. Anything with gravy was a plus when it came to my favorite comfort meals that my mom made for dinner. Oh my goodness, then top it all off with mashed potatoes and gravy. Infinitely more is never enough for me. Whenever I’m feeling under the weather, these hamburger steaks are a welcome sight. Not only are they simple to make, but the gravy, which is both thick and savory, takes no time at all.

These two ingredients are essential to the recipe’s success. Together, they brown the gravy while simultaneously adding a wealth of flavor from both ingredients.
