Acute myeloid leukemia was diagnosed in two-year-old Hallie Kyed in April 2023, nine months ago. Sadly, Hallie’s father, Doug Kyed, who reports on the NFL for the Boston Herald, broke the news of her death on Instagram on January 21.
Kyed claims that Hallie’s health deteriorated after a bone marrow transplant relapsed and chemotherapy failed to alleviate her symptoms.
While Jen and I held Hallie’s hands in bed on Sunday morning, she passed away quietly while she was sleeping, Doug wrote. Without Hallie, we are totally bewildered and devastated. There will be a permanent change in our life.
Hallie was a “special kid” who had a great influence on everyone she met, even though she was only two years old, according to her father. Olivia was lucky to have the greatest baby sister, and Doug was grateful for being her parents.
Doug elaborated that following Hallie’s relapse, the family spent extra time at the hospital because they knew the outlook was bad. The aggressive leukemia had become unmanageable, despite the hopes of remission.
Hallie fought a courageous nine months against acute myeloid leukemia and its consequences, and Doug lauded the doctors at Boston Children’s Hospital for their efforts. He remembered Hallie’s lovely gestures and the times she yelled at him and walked demandingly around the hospital floor.
Doug understands that life is more difficult without Hallie, but he wishes that those grieving her passing will take inspiration from her dogged pursuit of happiness—whether it was a specific Disney dress, a car journey, or just a walk.
During this extremely difficult time, please know that the Kyed family is in our prayers and thoughts as they prepare to lay Hallie to rest on January 26.
