Even in the midst of holiday chaos and lockdowns, one UPS guy managed to deliver roughly 200 goods daily.
He received a hero’s homage from hundreds of his neighbors this week.
In Chesterfield County, Virginia, Anthony Gaskin works as a delivery driver for UPS.
Hallsley homeowner Patty Friedman noted in an email that Anthony has persisted in working and has delivered an unprecedented amount of goods at their doors—more than 180 times to date—all thanks to COVID. Because of how much he made me feel at home throughout my initial move, I wanted to express my gratitude to him personally. It was excruciatingly lonely, and he was my world. Just by bringing this up with a few people, I received the validation I needed to realize I wasn’t alone.
That is what inspired Patty and her neighbors to devise a plan to express their gratitude to Gaskin.
Tuesday, December 15 was the day it all fell into place.
She described how hundreds of Hallsley people waited for Anthony to turn the corner, arriving on bikes, on foot, and in more than 75 cars. “After some convincing, the modest man allowed the crowd to slowly follow him as he drove his truck down the road, with signs, cries, horns, and bells held aloft by children and adults alike.”
The movement was clearly emotional After a quick speech by Gaskin, who thanked everyone, he returned to his job.
“Anthony goes above and beyond to deliver packages with care. He always smiles and waves,” remarked another neighbor. The moment you lay eyes on him, he immediately becomes a buddy. He always makes our day when he brings a package, which happens rather often at our house! We adore him because he is unlike any other delivery driver. Salutations, Anthony!
