Unleashing the Heart’s Pace: A Stirring Rendition
Among the several things capable of speeding the heartbeat, one that never fails to do so is the dynamic performance of The Star-Spangled Banner.
This was clear to those fortunate Arundel High School students who witnessed Jackson Dean Nicholson’s awe-inspiring performance as their senior defensive end a few years ago.
However, his football skills did not garner him respect on this occasion. Instead, his outstanding delivery of the national anthem before the game made an indelible impression on the audience, both locally and over the great expanse of the internet.

The backstory of his act lends even more complexity to the drama. Nicholson is said to have faced a critical dilemma when he realized no one else could perform the song.
He had two simple choices: let the audience lead and sing it together or rely on a recorded version blasting through the speakers. But Nicholson, who had uncommon resolve, chose a different path.
He stood alone in the middle of the field, armed only with an acoustic guitar and a microphone, and delivered a unique and soul-stirring version of the American national anthem.
The ensuing video of this poignant performance went viral, catapulting him to viral fame, and its impact is still felt today.
The continued popularity of this video, which was first uploaded in 2018, is a testament to Nicholson’s singing prowess. His interpretation, which showcases his incredible singing abilities and is still as current and awe-inspiring as ever, inspires people from all walks of life.
Nicholson humbled himself in an interview with the Baltimore Sun, saying, “I probably knew 90% of the people in those stands, and they had no idea I was doing it until I pulled out my guitar.” It was indeed a surprise that indelibly affected everyone in attendance.
While Nicholson’s five minutes of fame came dressed as a senior defensive end, it is critical to recognize that music is the door to his heart. His passion for melodies and lyrics runs deep; he has been writing and singing songs since high school.
